How do enlightened beings react to pain?

Buddhist masters feel pain just like we do. However, they don’t suffer like we do.

Pain is a physiological response. Being fully present in the moment, the Buddhist master will feel pain. Being fully present in the moment, the Buddhist master’s mind is at peace and she or he won’t suffer.

Suffering comes from mental struggle–that part of us that can’t accept the pain and bitches about it. This mental bitching creates unpleasant emotions. Then the mind bitches about the new emotions, creating more emotions. This vicious circle is suffering.

How does a Buddhist master react to pain? Peacefully.
